General’s Quarters
Whidbey Island Naval Air Station,
Whidbey Island was designed with variety and environmental concerns in mind.
With 12 variations of building plans and elevations this project proved that variety and aesthetics can be created within the strict limitations of budget, building requirements, and sensitivity to existing architecture.
The very strong winds and limited amount of sunshine on this site made the construction and orientation of the buildings of utmost importance. Overhangs, window orientation, and covered outdoor spaces were all designed to take advantage of the limited sunlight and to protect from the strong winds
